Discovering Passion for Spanish Through Travel Hello, dear Get More listeners. Today, I'm super happy to have someone who has exactly the same haircut as I have. So welcome, our friend Richard Blank. So Richard, let's start directly. Tell me, who are you? Where am I? I'm a big fan of your work, Thomas. And I'm so happy to be here with you and your audience today. But my story begins in Northeast Philadelphia. Yeah, I'm from the United States. And growing up, I loved Spanish. Decided to major it in college. And then tripled down on it. No, no. In fact, I'm glad that you did. I tell you what, growing up I had very generous parents and during certain times of the year we would travel and a lot of those travels were to Mexico City or to some of the fun beaches and besides having the best time of my life when you're eight years old I came back with at least 20 brand new vocabulary words. And when I would meet somebody from the Latin community and I would share these words, I got such positive reinforcement and they also added some grammar and more vocab. And so as a little boy, I realized that touching that plate didn't burn and you might get some rewards from it. Don't Be Hard on Yourself: Embrace Small Wins If there was one thing that you would like them to keep in mind, to remember, a key takeaway for today, what would that be? Well, the number one takeaway, do not be hard on yourself. Why be hard on yourself? Regardless of the outcome, you did things with honorable intentions in good faith. You can compare yourself to your bodies. At the end of the day, it's you. So I like small wins. I like collecting nickels. And you can kind of see the growth of it, like building blocks and bricks. And you'll get your whales every now and again, or you might have a good run. But you should always bring that happiness from the little ones, because the littles could turn into big. Remember, you started with one seat at one day, you started with no seats, you were by yourself. Freddie Mercury, Pink Floyd, and the Hero's Journey I got the bad butterflies, not the happy butterflies like Christmas Eve. And then I would see these people. You know what really freaked me out? Because I'm growing up in the 70s and 80s. When you watch the Freddie Mercury, David Bowie video of Under Pressure, and I'm watching the sidewalk walkers or the shoving into the subway cart people, or even Pink Floyd brick in the wall. That stuff was hitting me, hitting me, hitting me, hitting me. And I said, you have to make a choice, child. You have to decide to liberate yourself, but have a skill, or you could be one of the best that climbs that ladder and fights for it every come. You hear the hero's journey. I'm supposed to leave the town. I'm supposed to go on an adventure and slay a dragon and come back and tell the tale. I needed to become a prince. I was willing to die for it. And sometimes Thomas, doctor, my friend, you need to be selfish in order to make long-term decisions for yourself. And as much as you want to please others, that's others' lives and their expectations for you. And you only get 100 years on this silly planet just to spin and have fun. So I disappointed so, but at the end, I guess I won. Why? By telling them I told you so? I didn't want to do that. It should have been set from the beginning. They should have been adding wind to my sails instead of holding me back. And these are individuals that fear the unknown. From A Short Timeout To A New Life In Costa Rica So then guess what happened, doctor? At 27 years old, a good, good friend of mine, Joey said to me, hey, why don't you come to Costa Rica? Why don't you teach English for a couple months at my call center and give yourself a timeout because you're sending out resumes through a fax machine hoping you can get an interview somewhere in Phoenix. Okay, great. Come down, take a break. Time out and shed some skin. Man, two months turned into four years. I put my stuff in storage and I moved and I stayed in Costa Rica. I fell in love. I learned the business from the inside out, not at sea level. And I got a chance to sit with the people. So you got to hear the good and the bad and the happy and the sad. And you want to hear the best part about it, my friend, my ethical persuader, that this is the time in the early 2000s when people were working off of Cisco phones and Excel sheets. They weren't doing like what you had today with Plantronics. And you are watching individuals, sight unseen, English second language, engaged in conversations, transitional sentences, tie downs, having a good time, getting an ROI on their investment, really artists of speech. And the room was alive. Can we compete with New York stock sellers? No, I never said you could, but let me see how they pitch in Spanish in our home court, see how they do. They're watching people that speak a romantic language. And I loved it. And it was boy and girl, young and old, everywhere. Everyone was devoted to the art of the speech. https://youtu.be/vZGKNTVkroE https://youtube.com/shorts/crVE-fJc7m0?feature=share https://youtube.com/shorts/uzjnDtyKGwM During these few years teaching and conducting NeuroMarketing projects, I studied the differences between male and female brains to help me improve my relationship and my teachings. Thus was born the NeuroCouple concept, accompanied by my first book on the subject, helping women and men enjoy better relationships thanks to brain science. It was then that it became clear to me that those who deserved the most access to all this knowledge were the people wanting to genuinely help other people reach the best decisions: ENTREPRENEURS. And so was born the Ethical Persuader System, followed by the Decision Hack System. I give workshops, trainings and seminars for companies and individuals. And I am also a speaker at conferences all around the world, to help people like you, make the best decisions to Get More! and become the Ethical Persuader. What drives me? Your smile! To see that you found a new way to be happy in your couple, in your job, in your life. Your smile is a facial expression and as such is driven by your brain! See, I told you I love brains! During my whole career, which I started as a computer engineer investigating the way people were thinking and writing software, I always had a passion for what makes us be who we are. When it comes to my career in Marketing and Sales I always had a strong passion for understanding what make the products and businesses I manage unique, and focused towards their customers, uncovering their hidden motivations and desires. This has allowed me to build very strong ties with my own business customers and strengthen their competitive advantage. Over the last years after having spend over 25 years in engineering and marketing with both high tech and industrial companies such as Robert Bosch, Hewlett-Packard, AOL, Steelcase and Sapa Building Systems, I’ve joined SalesBrain, the first NeuroMarketing agency. Over the last couple of years I noticed that many parts of neuroscience could not only used for marketing, sales, management or strategy, but could be very useful in your personal life, in your love life . Born in Switzerland of German descent, I have lived in Belgium, France, and Ireland, and consider myself a European citizen. I am living with my second wife for more than 10 years and have 5 kids (2 from a past life, and 3 with my wife), which gives me a great perspective on what love life is about. I graduated in Computer Engineering, hold a Master Sc. in Artificial Intelligence and Algorithmic and a PhD in Artificial Neural Networks.[:fr] Ce qui me motive ? Votre sourire !
